A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to continue funding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
This is a big win for our campaign, but we can’t stop now.
It’s been a busy week for us here at RuralOrganizing.org. Nearly 60,000 people have already joined us in demanding that food assistance for 42 million Americans not be used as a political bargaining chip. And we have some great news!
A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to continue funding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the ongoing government shutdown.
The program, which provides food assistance to roughly 42 million Americans, was expected to run out of money without immediate action. Judge John J. McConnell of the U.S. District Court for Rhode Island ruled that the Department of Agriculture must release contingency funds “as soon as possible” to ensure November payments are made.
Around the same time, another federal judge in Massachusetts ruled in favor of more than two dozen states seeking to compel the administration to release SNAP funds, giving the government until Monday to explain how benefits will be provided.
This is a significant win for our campaign, but we can’t stop now. If we know one thing about President Trump, it’s that he doesn’t care about the rule of law. He only cares about public opinion.
That’s why we are appealing directly to the American public. We know that our stories are powerful. If SNAP or other food assistance programs have personally impacted you, we want to hear from you.
By sharing your story, you’ll help educate voters in your community about the vital role these programs play for families, seniors, and working people across rural America.
For decades—under both parties—the USDA has always used contingency funds to protect food access during shutdowns. This isn’t about politics. It’s about basic decency. But today, that long-standing precedent is being ignored.
Democratic governors and attorneys general shouldn’t have to sue the federal government just to ensure families can eat. And if we’re going to protect SNAP in the long run, we need to build support for the program among the American people.
When we tell our stories, we remind our neighbors what’s really at stake—and we build the power to protect programs like SNAP.

And if Trump and his corrupt regime refuse to do as they are ordered then ALL of them should be arrested and put in jail!
